Starting today, both smoking and vaping will be completely banned inside Disneyland and at all other Disney parks. The ban will include domestic theme parks, water parks and the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex. The area between Disneyland and the California Adventure Park known as the Esplanade as well as the Downtown Disney District will also be covered by the ban.
Previously, smoking and vaping was confined to a single small area in Disneyland. You could hunker down with your e-cig in a small pen in Frontierland and vape away while you listened to the screams coming from Big Thunder Mountain Railway and stared morosely at Tom Sawyer Island. Now, even this will be disallowed.
The move really doesn't come as a surprise. Smoking and vaping areas in the park have been gradually dwindling over the years. However, some observers speculate that the change wasn't made out of any genuine concern for people's health but was, instead, an attempt to gain more valuable real estate in order to pack in more guests.
In fact, Disneyland has been pulling benches and ripping out seating areas throughout the park over the past year. Just as telling, Disneyland announced new restrictions on the size of strollers allowed in the park that, coincidentally, also go into effect today. Strollers may be no more than 31 inches wide by 52 inches long and visitors can measure their strollers outside security to ensure they are regulation. If not, there are Disney approved strollers available for rent for a cool $15 a day.
You'll still be able to vape if you're willing to exit the park. Disneyland has stated that they will maintain smoking/vaping areas there but, of course, that means going through the tremendous hassle of walking to the entrance and then waiting through lines again to get back inside the park.
If you choose to flout the Mouse's rules, just be careful, Disneyland has cameras planted just about everywhere but inside the restroom stalls. We foresee a wave of stealth vaping in the happiest bathrooms on earth!
